Bird lovers and nature enthusiasts will have the chance to expand their knowledge and skills this fall and winter with the Toledo Zoo’s Birding Quarterly Workshops. Hosted in the Relic Room inside the ProMedica Museum of Natural History, these sessions are designed to deepen understanding of bird behavior, identification, and conservation.
On Tuesday, Sept. 16, from 6:30–8 pm, the workshop “Prep Your Yard for Overwintering Pollinators” will highlight practical ways to make backyards more welcoming for pollinators during the colder months. Participants will discover strategies to support bees, butterflies, and other vital species whose presence helps create a thriving ecosystem for birds and plants alike.
The next session, on Wednesday, Dec. 3, from 6:30–8 pm, will shift focus to “Winter Waterfowl Identification.”As migratory species settle into northwest Ohio during the colder season, this workshop will help participants sharpen their skills in identifying ducks, geese, and swans that frequent the region’s waterways.
Workshops are open to the public, with free access available to Toledo Zoo Bird Club members (promo code provided in the monthly newsletter). Tickets can be purchased exclusively through the Toledo Zoo’s official website, ensuring safe and secure registration.
With engaging topics and expert instruction, the Birding Quarterly Workshops offer both new and seasoned birders an opportunity to connect with nature year-round. Whether you’re interested in creating a pollinator-friendly space or mastering waterfowl ID, these sessions provide valuable insights for anyone passionate about birds and conservation.
