For 25 years, the Women’s Initiative of United Way of Greater Toledo has brought women together to support programs that strengthen families, empower women and help children thrive throughout the region.
Founded in 2001 by 100 women who each committed $1,000, the affinity group has since raised more than $2 million for community programs and initiatives.
Their work has included developing WordShop: a creative writing program created in partnership with the Toledo Museum of Art, bringing Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to Lucas County, supporting social-emotional learning programs for local youth and most recently raising more than $30,000 for the Family and Child Abuse Prevention Center.
The organization will celebrate its 25th anniversary with an evening recognizing the women whose leadership and philanthropy have helped shape its legacy. Founding members Sara Jane DeHoff, Pat Appold and Kimberly Danes are among those receiving special recognition.
The Women’s Initiative 25th Anniversary Celebration will take place Wednesday, September 16, from 6 to 8 pm at the Maumee Bay Brewing Company Warehouse.
