Senior Centers Inc. is recruiting volunteers ages 55 and older for their Foster Grandparent Program.
The program is in partnership with Toledo Public Schools, daycares and other social services organizations in the Toledo area.
The program is in partnership with AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent Program, a federal program that connects low-income seniors with at-risk students in the community.
The volunteers work from 10 to 30 hours a week and receive an hourly tax-free stipend and daily travel allowance for their volunteer work.

Volunteers go through an extensive background check and training before being placed into schools. They also have monthly in-services that keep the seniors up to date in their training.
“We currently have 52 volunteers that actively work each day school is in session. And then when school is out of session is when they work in the daycares and the community centers,” Shelly McCoy Grissmon, executive director of Senior Centers Inc., said.
If interested in becoming a volunteer for the Foster Grandparent Program, call Shelly at 419-242-9511.
Senior Centers Inc. has many other services offered to seniors in the area, including socialization and activity programs, food assistance through their daily lunches, commodity boxes and food pantry, housekeeping services, care coordination and much more.
