The retreat gives survivors and their support systems the opportunity to connect with others who understand and relate to their experiences as well as provide education opportunities and resources to support their recovery.
“We understand the challenges that stroke survivors and their families face every day, and we want to offer them a place where they can not only relax and recharge but also find community and support,” Julie Goins-Whitmore, Neuroscience manager at Mercy Health, said in a statement. “We hope that stroke survivors, caregivers and their families will take advantage of this unique opportunity to connect with others who share similar experiences and to gain valuable resources and support in a peaceful and restorative setting.”
Several activities are planned for campers to enjoy, including crafts, games, educational sessions, resources, pampering and group discussions. Each activity was planned to ensure inclusivity with volunteers to help throughout the weekend.
The camp is all-inclusive. Registration costs $10 and can be done on the Refresh and Retreat Stroke Camp website.
