2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) – One of the most endlessly haunting pieces of cinema is Stanley Kubrick’s sci-fi drama. Written by Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke, the film covers no less than three eras of human existence, following from the dawn of man to the discovery of a mysterious monolith on the moon in the (then) future. Endlessly influential, the film’s groundbreaking special effects were remarkably realistic and the deeper meaning of the story is still being debated a half century later.
