With the new school year just around the corner, United Way of Greater Toledo is calling on the community to give local educators a little extra support
Helping Our Heroes 2026 will begin on Thursday, August 13, 9am, at Birmingham Elementary, Escuela SMART Academy, and Robinson Elementary with its annual Campaign Kickoff Event to help educators prepare their classrooms for the upcoming school year.
Educators spend hours beyond their scheduled school day preparing classrooms and lessons, and often purchasing supplies with their own money. Helping Our Heroes allows the community to give back while showing support and appreciation to local educators.
Projects begin at 9 am at all three schools. Those unable to volunteer but still looking to support the cause can donate classroom supplies. Most needed supplies include hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, tissues, individually packaged snack boxes (chips, cookies, etc.) and pencils.
Sponsorship opportunities are also available. If interested in becoming a sponsor, contact Vice President of Resource Development, Tina Ohmart Mendoza at tina.ohmartmendoza@
