Writers of every stripe—from journal keepers to novelists—will find inspiration at the second annual Sauder Village Storytellers Conference on Saturday, April 4, 8am to 4 pm, in the Carolyn Sauder Education Center. Designed as a full-day immersion into the craft, the conference brings together fiction and non-fiction writers for workshops, lectures, guided writing sessions and opportunities to connect with fellow storytellers.
Organizers emphasize both skill-building and community. “The Storytellers Conference provides the opportunity for writers to connect with authors while honing their writing skills,” said Deb Ridgway, Sauder Village Adult Education Manager. “Presenters will share their writing journey, offer tips and stories and lead writing sessions sure to inspire a variety of genres.”
Keynote speaker Kate Zirkle, founder and executive director of the American Diary Project, will present “What We Leave Behind: Diaries and the Stories That Shape Us,” a talk centered on the power of journaling and the importance of preserving everyday narratives. Her perspective highlights how writing can help individuals find meaning in their lives.
Additional speakers include Katie Gilliand, Autumn Owens, Ann Weir, Rose McWilliams-Nowak, Don Allison, Bill Senegal, Steve Engel, David Timm Jr. and Cody Karamol.
Attendees can also browse vendor booths featuring book-themed goods from regional shops and organizations, open to the public without registration.
Following the conference, Sauder Village will hold a Spoken Word Night at 6:30 pm, inviting storytellers to take the stage, each given up to eight minutes to share fiction, non-fiction or poetry in a supportive, creative environment. Conference attendees may participate at no additional cost, while members of the public can purchase tickets to attend.
