Ryan Pharmacy has served as Toledo’s full service pharmacy and orthopedic supply since 1959.
Founded by Gerald G. Ryan on Dec. 9, 1959 at the corner of Dorr Street and Byrne Road, Ryan Pharmacy has always carried the mission that service is the most important part of the business.
Ryan created the full service pharmacy with everything from prescriptions and magazines to cigars in his giant humidor. However, the pharmacy has changed with the times, like the retirement of the humidor and new items on display like hospital beds, walkers and wheelchairs. On the old magazine racks, new literature appeared about recently-approved pain relief products called T.E.N.S. units.
Ryan Pharmacy evolved into Ryan Pharmacy & Orthopedics Supply in the 1970s. In the 1980s, the pharmacy began selling T.E.N.S. units to physical therapists around the Toledo area. Now Ryan Pharmacy sells a full line of therapy products to hospitals and physical therapies throughout the midwest.
Ryan Pharmacy & Orthopedic Supply will continue to add products that people most want and need from their health care providers. They take pride in being family-oriented and locally owned. They welcome customers with open arms and look forward to becoming your partner in healthcare.
Meet the team:
Gerald G. Ryan – Founder
Jerry is a native of Toledo, and graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1948. He entered the Air Force and spent a year in Texas before returning to Toledo to attend Toledo University. Jerry married his high school sweetheart, Joan, in 1951, and graduated from Toledo University with a degree in Pharmacy, and began working for Elmer’s pharmacy in the South End. Jerry decided to go into business for himself, and Ryan Pharmacy opened at Dorr and Byrne during a raging blizzard in December, 1959. His next venture was into Orthopedics in the 1970s, and he is recognized throughout the Midwest as a leading expert in electrical stimulation for pain relief. Jerry has since retired and his son Tim now runs the business.
Timothy J. Ryan – President
Tim also was born in Toledo, and graduated from St. John’s (Jesuit) HS in 1984. He attended Ohio State University, graduating in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism. In 1989, Tim joined Ryan Pharmacy & Orthopedics, and established new P.T. territories in Cleveland and Columbus. Tim is now president and in-store full time.
Daniel J. Ryan – Sales Manager
Born in Toledo in 1955, Dan attended Start HS and graduated in 1973. He attended Bowling Green State University, and earned a Liberal Arts Degree from The University of Toledo in 1978. Soon after, Dan became a permanent member of the Ryan Pharmacy team. He helped Gerald expand the Orthopedic Department, running the sales force for the physical therapy supplies.
Kevin Secrest – Head Pharmacist
Was born in Toledo and grew up on the west side. Kevin graduated from Toledo St. Francis DeSales High School. He attended the University of Toledo and graduated from the Pharmacy program. He is the pharmacy consultant as well as being certified in diabetic care. Prior to returning to Toledo and Ryan Pharmacy Kevin was a pharmacist with CVS Pharmacy in Michigan. He has been with Ryan Pharmacy since 2005.
