Migration-A-Thon: Month-Long Moving Challenge

The Friends of Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge are hosting a month-long moving challenge fundraiser.

The Migration-A-Thon Virtual Challenge challenges community members to move, whether that be bird, walk, hike, run, swim, paddle, bike or however you choose to move.

The organizations have a goal of reaching 2,269 miles collectively, which is the distance it takes a monarch butterfly to travel from Oak Harbor to the butterfly sanctuary in Sierra Chincua, Mexico.

“Join Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge this September as we celebrate fall migration of birds, butterflies, dragonflies, and more! As part of our celebration, we are challenging you to get moving outside throughout the month,” the organization wrote.

Participants can also ask friends, family or businesses to sponsor you at a pledged rate per mile.

Log your distance as you move and upload them throughout the month of September. As you move, you will earn entries to win the grand prize, a Garmin Instinct 2 Smartwatch along with other prizes. Miles can be completed anywhere.

The cost to participate in the Migration-A-Thon Virtual Challenge fundraiser is $20.

All proceeds collected during the fundraiser will fund the Friends Of Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge and their mission.
