The Ability Center’s Library Takeover and Disability Friendly Awards

The Ability Center is taking over the Toledo Library for one day only.
Toledo’s downtown branch will host The Ability Center for fun and educational activities during this family-friendly event to empower, educate and include people of all abilities.

Additionally, Adams Street Publishing joined forces with The Ability Center to create the Disability Friendly Awards, highlighting the incredible individuals and places that are making a positive impact in the disability community.

Saturday, July 22 at 12 pm, The Ability Center and Adams Street Publishing will unveil the winners of the Disability Friendly Awards. Various categories celebrate the faces and places that are doing disability differently. From inspiring advocates to inclusive businesses, these remarkable individuals and organizations have gone above and beyond to create a more accessible and inclusive space.

The categories are as follows:

  • Inclusive Family-Friendly Event
  • Disability-Friendly Workplace
  • Local Disability Ally
  • Most accessible establishment (restaurant/bar)
  • Best adaptive outdoor activity

Though the event runs from 12 pm to 4 pm, Disability Friendly Awards winners will be announced at 12:30 pm in the Atrium of the Main Library.

The Ability Center, 5605 Monroe St., works year round to ensure the safety and wellbeing of those with disabilities in the community. Through advocacy, assistance dogs, home accessibility, referrals and informative workshops, The Ability Center is always striving to make the Toledo area the most disability friendly in the nation.
