As planting season wraps up, thousands of plastic greenhouse trays and planters often end up in landfills. To tackle this seasonal surge in plastic waste, Keep Toledo/Lucas County Beautiful (KTLCB) is hosting a special recycling collection through June 6.
The initiative allows residents to drop off clean, empty plastic trays and planters—items not accepted in curbside recycling—at four participating garden centers across Lucas County. Locations include Bench Farms in Curtice, Black Diamond locations in Toledo and Waterville, and Lois Keil and Sons in Sylvania. Drop-offs can be made during each business’s regular hours.
“This is a great opportunity to keep these plastics out of the landfill and give them a chance at a second life,” said Adam Cassi, Executive Director of Keep Toledo/Lucas County Beautiful. “We’re grateful to the local greenhouses who are stepping up as collection partners and making this as easy as possible for the community.”
Collected containers will be processed by a specialized recycling partner, keeping them out of the waste stream and contributing to a more sustainable region.
Residents are reminded to remove all soil and debris before recycling. For more details and a list of accepted materials, visit ktlcb.org or follow KTLCB on social media.
