One local non-profit is working to combat veteran homelessness.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development reported that over 35,000 veterans were experiencing homelessness on a given night in January 2023.
Heroes Place, a local nonprofit, is working to create a Veteran Tiny Home Community in Northwood to help end Veteran Homelessness.
“It’s simple, provide homes, with pride, to help the homeless Vets to live a quality of life. To help our Veterans to advance into a permanent sustainable housing. Provide them with hope, dignity and the respect they deserve,” the organization wrote on the website.
The nonprofit has proposed turning the 2.27-acre lot on 1921 Bailey Rd. into a community of 20 tiny homes for veterans to live in.
“We envision a future where no veteran is left without a home. By building tiny home communities, we aim to create safe havens where veterans can access the resources they need to lead healthy, fulfilling lives,” the nonprofit wrote.

The nonprofit has a long road before we see tiny homes on Bailey Road. The organization received its 501(c)(3) status in March, easing zoning restrictions and is working to receive state and federal funding. The nonprofit has also reached out to several local organizations for support.
Donations to the nonprofit can be made on The Heroes Place website.
“We are dedicated to providing a sanctuary for our nation’s heroes,” The group wrote. “Our mission is to build a community of tiny homes for homeless veterans, offering them a safe, supportive, and dignified place to live. Located in Northwood, Ohio, Heroes Place is committed to making a positive impact in the lives of those who have served our country.”
