Keep Your New Year’s Resolutions with Metroparks Toledo

Many people set goals and resolutions in the new year to create a healthier lifestyle for themselves. Metroparks Toledo has created many events to help residents stick to their New Year’s resolutions throughout the winter season.

Get into shape through Wintering the Metroparks over the next three months. 

The program includes three major events, featuring unique hikes through fan favorite Toledo Metroparks including Providence, Oak Openings Preserve and Glass City Metroparks.

The first hike takes place Saturday, Jan. 20. Wintering the Towpath features a 5- or 10-mile hike through Providence to Bend View. The 10-mile hike begins at 8:30 am and the 5-mile hike has a rolling start from 10 am to 11 am. Check-in at Kimles Landing at 8 am for the 10-mile or 9 am to 10 am for the 5-mile hike. 

Hikers can enjoy s’mores, hot chocolate and demonstrations at historic Isaac Ludwig Mill from 10 am to 2 pm after their hike. For the full schedule and to register for the hike, click here.

The second hike, Wintering the Oaks, takes place in February. Hike 6, 10- or 16 miles of the Scout Trail at Oak Openings Preserve. Check-in at 8 am for the 10- and 16-mile hike or 9 am to 10 am for the 6-mile hike. Both the 10- and 16-mile hike begin at 8:30 am and the 6-mile hike begins from 10 am to 11 am. 

Enjoy s’mores and hot chocolate at the Heavy Wheelhouse from 10 am to 3 pm afterward. Coffee, beer and snacks will also be available for purchase. Visit their website for the full schedule. 

The final hike, Wintering the Glass City, Bridge to Bridge, features a 5- or 6-mile hike through Glass City for the best view of downtown’s Metroparks, Glass City and Middlegrounds.

Check-in for the 5- and 6-mile hike at 9 am with both hikes having a rolling start of 10 am to 11 am. Enjoy refreshments including s’mores and hot chocolate at the Garden from 10 am to 2 pm after the hike. Coffee, alcoholic beverages and food are available for purchase. Registration for the individual hikes cost $10 if purchased prior to the event or $15 the day of. Register for all three hikes for $40 and receive a limited edition hat, presented by Ridge and River.
