Walmart Settles with FTC Regarding Spark Driver Delivery Service

For anyone considering earning extra income through app-based driving, delivery, repair, or task services, pay is probably a top priority. Here’s a recent FTC story about just that:

Walmart recently agreed to a $100 million judgment to settle allegations by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and 11 States that its Spark Driver delivery platform misled drivers about how much they would earn through base pay, tips, and incentives. According to the complaint, those promises didn’t always match reality, costing drivers millions in expected income. The settlement includes reimbursements already going out to some drivers and a fund for others who have not yet received the earnings they were promised.

You can read the allegations and settlement details at the FTC’s website: www.ftc.gov/news-events/news/press-releases/2026/02/walmart-agrees-100-million-judgment-settle-ftc-states-charges-over-deceptive-earnings-claims-related

This is an important reminder: all companies — large or small — must be truthful about earnings when advertising gig opportunities. This chimes perfectly with the BBB’s longstanding Truth-in-Advertising principles.

Before accepting a gig, interested workers should take a few smart steps:

  • Understand the pay structure. Are you paid per hour, per task, or based on performance? Ask for a clear breakdown.
  • Do your research. Search the company name along with words like “reviews,” “complaints,” or “pay issues.”
  • Talk to real workers. Ask about actual take-home pay and out-of-pocket expenses like gas, mileage, or supplies.
  • Track your earnings. Compare what you were promised with what you receive.
