With dangerously hot temperatures expected this week, the City of Toledo and Lucas County are opening cooling centers to help residents stay safe during a Heat Advisory issued by the National Weather Service from Monday, June 29, through Thursday, July 3.
Hours vary by location, and residents are encouraged to call ahead before visiting. TARTA’s regular fixed-route service provides access to many cooling centers, and those needing transportation assistance can call 211.
Cooling centers in Toledo:
- East Toledo Family Center: Monday–Thursday, 8am- 6pm.
- Eleanor Kahle Senior Center: Monday- Thursday, 9am – 3:30pm.
- Frederick Douglass Community Center: 9am – 6pm.
- Friendship Park Community Center (ages 60+ and individuals with disabilities): 9 am – 3:30pm.
- Jamie Farr Splash Pad: 1 – 6pm.
- J. Frank Troy Senior Center (ages 60+): 8:30 – 4:30pm.
- Navarre Pool (free admission during the heat advisory): 1 – 6pm (Closed Tuesday).
- Pickford Pool (free admission during the heat advisory): 1 – 6pm.
- Roosevelt Pool (free admission during the heat advisory): 1 – 6pm (Closed Tuesday).
- Senior Centers, Inc. (ages 50+): 9am – 4pm.
- Wayman D. Palmer YMCA: 6am – 8pm.
- Wilson Pool (free admission during the heat advisory): 1 – 6pm.
Cooling centers in Lucas County:
- Maumee Senior Center: 9am – 4pm.
- Spencer Township Neighborhood Center in Holland: 8am – 4pm.
Only documented service animals are permitted inside cooling centers. Residents looking to cool off with pets can visit Metroparks, which offer dog watering stations and shaded areas.
