Amy Carpenter: Cultivating the Fruits of the Holy Spirit Through Everyday Faith

Have you ever met someone who radiates joy no matter what life throws their way? Or someone who seems to have an unshakable patience, even in the most frustrating moments? These aren’t just personality traits—they’re often signs of something deeper: the Fruits of the Holy Spirit at work.

For Amy Carpenter, a hairstylist by trade and a spiritual motivator by heart, these fruits—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control—are more than just ideals. They’re evidence of a Spirit-centered life and her new book, Fruits of the Holy Spirit, is a 9-week devotional guide to help readers not only understand these qualities, but also live them out every day.

A Spiritual Journey from Small Town Roots

Amy is a new author with deep local roots. Born in Toledo, she grew up in nearby Walbridge and now resides in Oregon, Ohio. Her life reflects the everyday person—hardworking, community-driven and full of heart. As a full-time hairstylist since the age of 19, Amy has spent decades connecting with people one-on-one, listening to their stories and offering encouragement from behind the salon chair.

But in 2021, she began feeling a pull toward something more. She wanted to help others develop not just outward beauty, but inward peace. What started as a personal devotional journey evolved into a years-long process of writing and reflection, ultimately leading to the self-published release of Fruits of the Holy Spirit on Amazon.

A Devotional for the Modern Believer

Amy’s book is structured as a 9-week devotional, with each week focused on one of the fruits. Each day includes a short, digestible reading, a writing prompt and space to journal—making it easy for anyone to create a consistent habit of reflection and spiritual growth, even with a busy schedule.

“It only takes a few minutes a day,” Amy says, “but those few minutes can change the direction of your day—and eventually, your life.”

Whether you’re new to faith or have walked with God for years, the devotional helps tune your heart to the whispers of the Holy Spirit. Amy believes that by cultivating awareness and space for the Spirit’s guidance, the fruits will begin to bloom naturally in our lives.

From Small Groups to Spiritual Growth

Amy’s vision for Fruits of the Holy Spirit goes beyond the page. She’s used the devotional as a tool in small group settings—Bible studies, walking groups and spiritual circles—where participants come together weekly to discuss the readings and share their reflections. For Amy, community and conversation are key to personal transformation.

“I want people to trust that inner voice—the Holy Spirit speaking within them,” she shares. “The book is just a guide to help you recognize it and grow in it.”

A Glimpse at What’s Next

Though Fruits of the Holy Spirit is her first book, Amy is already dreaming of her next project—something motivational, possibly with a focus on everyday encouragement and empowerment. Given her experience leading groups and her deep connection with people through her work, it’s easy to imagine her stepping into that role with grace.

When she’s not writing or working behind the chair, Amy enjoys camping, participates in local theater and even taps her toes in tap dance class. She lives a full, vibrant life—one that mirrors the very fruits she writes about.
