Volunteers with the Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol (R.S.V.P.) in Toledo work to provide the best aid possible for seniors in need, by working in conjunction with the Toledo Police Department and the Northwest Ohio Area Office on Aging.
R.S.V.P. is a volunteer program that was originally created in Fall 2000 and continues to support seniors in the Toledo community today. The program strives to foster a partnership between volunteers and local seniors that may need support and companionship due to old age, family situation or health reasons.

“Our clients rely on us and always look forward to our visits,” Florence McLennan, Office Manager of R.S.V.P., said.
R.S.V.P. Operates out of the Ottawa Park substation located at 2145 N Cove Blvd., to provide for centralized planning, control, support and organization.
Volunteer Duties
R.S.V.P. Volunteers regularly check on the safety and wellbeing of clients while providing companionship during weekly visits. Volunteers can assist clients with immediate help, provide conversation and develop friendships during visitations.
“After you’ve visited a couple of times it’s like they become family to you,” McLennan said.
After each visit, volunteers should determine if there is a need to make a follow-up referral to improve the client’s quality of life. Referrals are made to the Northwest Ohio Area Office on Aging to provide clients with extended services and resources beyond the volunteer program.
The program ensures that clients can rely on volunteers by scheduling appointments ahead of time and providing an advanced notice from the volunteer on the day of the visit. R.S.V.P. Volunteers can be easily identified by their identification badges, uniform and marked vehicle.
