Artist Thomas Dambo, from Copenhagen, Denmark is the world’s leading recycle artist and he has brought his art to Dayton! Just over a 2 hour drive from Toledo, Aullwood Audubon is the new home of Dambo’s “The Troll That Hatched an Egg” exhibition. The exhibits consist of giant troll sculptures Bo, Bodil, and Bibbi along with their troll-sized bird nest, one of only nine Dambo-created exhibitions in the United States and Puerto Rico.

Aullwood is a place full of birds, nature, ecosystems, and conservation which is reflected heavily in the trolls’ story which can be read online for free here or on display in the lobby of the nature center and farm discovery center. A special commemorative version of the story that features a map is also available for the small fee of $5 at the nature center and farm. Dambo says that everything he makes is made out of things laying around which means he can build really large structures with a very small footprint or environmental impact. The exhibition also pays tribute to Dayton’s aviation history. This is a permanent exhibit created specifically for Aullwood Audubon.
